Health and Safety policy

Health and Safety Policy for TM Moving Solutions
This Health and Safety Policy sets out the commitment of TM Moving Solutions to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public. Our operations include domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport and unloading services across Dorset and surrounding areas. We recognise our legal and moral responsibilities to manage risks effectively and to promote a positive safety culture in every aspect of our work.

Policy Statement and Objectives
The company is committed to preventing injury and ill health arising from our activities. We will identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate control measures for all removal and transport tasks. Our objectives are to comply with applicable health and safety legislation, continually improve our safety performance and ensure that every member of our team understands their responsibilities. We aim to provide a working environment where health and safety is integrated into daily planning and decision making.

Management Responsibilities
Senior management has overall responsibility for health and safety within TM Moving Solutions. This includes providing adequate resources, equipment, training and supervision to ensure that activities are carried out safely. Management will regularly review this policy, monitor performance, investigate incidents and near misses, and act on findings to prevent recurrence. Managers and supervisors must ensure safe systems of work are in place for lifting, carrying, vehicle use, packing, loading, unloading and storage of goods.

Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of colleagues, customers and members of the public who may be affected by their actions. Staff must follow all safety procedures, use equipment correctly, attend required training and report any hazards, incidents, injuries or near misses without delay. Employees must not misuse any equipment provided for safety purposes and must cooperate fully with management in implementing this policy.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We will conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all key activities, including manual handling, vehicle movements, working at height when accessing vehicles, handling fragile or heavy items, operating in confined spaces such as narrow hallways, and working in residential streets and commercial premises in and around Twickenham. The findings of these assessments will be used to develop safe systems of work which will be communicated to all relevant staff. Risk assessments will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are changes to work practices, equipment or operating locations.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and presents a significant risk of injury if not managed correctly. We will minimise manual handling wherever reasonably practicable by using appropriate equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, lifting straps and ramps. Employees will receive training on safe lifting techniques, team lifting, load assessment and the correct use of handling aids. No employee is required or permitted to lift or move loads that exceed safe limits. Damaged or defective equipment will be removed from service immediately.

Vehicles, Driving and Road Safety
The company will ensure that vehicles used for removal services are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition in line with legal requirements and manufacturer guidelines. Drivers must hold the appropriate licence, adhere to road traffic laws and follow company procedures for loading, securing loads and parking in residential and commercial areas. Journey planning will take into account traffic, access routes and local conditions across Dorset and nearby locations to reduce risks associated with time pressure and congestion. Drivers must conduct pre-use vehicle checks and report defects promptly.

Customer Premises and Public Safety
We recognise our responsibility to protect customers, visitors and members of the public while carrying out removals. Access routes will be kept as clear as practicable, and where necessary, staff will use warning signs or verbal guidance to alert people to moving loads, vehicle movements and trip hazards. Care will be taken to protect property, fixtures and fittings, and to avoid blocking entrances, exits or fire escape routes in homes, offices and shared buildings. Particular care will be taken in busy residential streets, near schools and in town centre locations.

Training, Information and Supervision
TM Moving Solutions will provide all employees with information, instruction and training appropriate to their role. This includes induction training on company safety procedures, manual handling, use of equipment, vehicle and driver safety, accident reporting and emergency procedures. Additional training will be given when new equipment, processes or locations are introduced. Supervisors are responsible for monitoring working practices on site, correcting unsafe behaviour and ensuring that health and safety standards are maintained during each removal project.

Accident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work-related ill health must be reported as soon as possible to a supervisor or manager. The company will keep accurate records of such events and will investigate to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Where required, statutory reporting to the relevant authorities will be completed. Lessons learned from investigations will be communicated to staff and used to improve procedures, equipment and training.

Emergency Preparedness
Procedures will be in place to respond to emergencies such as fire, personal injury, vehicle incidents, spillages and damage to property. Staff will be briefed on what to do in an emergency, including how to raise the alarm, contact emergency services and evacuate premises safely. Drivers and team leaders are responsible for ensuring that emergency arrangements are followed on customer sites and that any specific site rules are observed.

Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We encourage open communication on health and safety matters. Employees are invited to raise concerns, suggest improvements and participate in discussions about safer working methods. Management is committed to reviewing this policy regularly, taking into account changes in legislation, industry guidance, business activities and feedback from staff and customers. By working together, we aim to deliver a professional removal service while maintaining the highest possible standards of health, safety and welfare.

Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed at least annually and revised as necessary to reflect changes in our operations, best practice and legal requirements. The latest version will be made available to employees and to customers on request.
